On April 6th, TransLink launched the R2 Marine Drive RapidBus service connecting Park Royal in West Vancouver to Phibbs Exchange in North Vancouver.
The R2 is one of 11 RapidBus lines in the Lower Mainland aimed at delivering faster, more frequent and reliable bus service to some of the busiest transit corridors in the region. Access is working with TransLink on planning and designing the first 5 of those lines. To this task we bring our team’s strengths in public transportation innovation, creative problem solving, and decision-analysis.
Like elsewhere in the region, rapid transit infrastructure is a challenge in North Vancouver due to constrained road space and local geography. And while rail rapid transit remains a long-term goal, rapid bus infrastructure provides immediate quality rapid transit to North Shore residents and businesses.
The new R2 Marine Drive service and street redesign will improve travel times by up to 10 minutes and see peak boarding numbers in the range of 1650 passengers per hour. It will support residents, workers and visitors to move efficiently across the North Shore, saving time and money in the process.
Access is proud to have worked with TransLink to bring stakeholders together to work towards a common rapid transit vision on Vancouver’s North Shore. Our work also helped TransLink and North Shore municipalities evaluate and make challenging road use decisions that ultimately enabled bringing the R2 RapidBus line to life on Marine Drive. You can learn more about our work with the RapidBus program by visiting our website or about all the planned lines at TransLink’s RapidBus program page.
