The Access team is excited that the City of Toronto’s Transit Design Guide has been featured in a recent edition of Novae Res Urbis (NRU). The Access team, with our project partners at Perkins+Will, have been working with the City of Toronto to develop and advance this guide to shape the future of transit infrastructure in Toronto.
The Transit Design Guide sets out design expectations for project partners such as city departments and transit agencies to integrate new or upgraded transit infrastructure into a changing city. Initial guidance has been developed for important and highly impactful transit elements such bus terminals, elevated stations and guideways, and community-facing operating facilities.
Transit design is shaped by five principles setting out city expectations for urban integration, accountability, user experience, intermodal operations, and sustainability and resilience.
The Transit Design Guide is a living document — with guidance for elements such active modes, universal access, bus stops and stations, and others following in the future.
We love projects like these that bring together multiple perspectives on building better cities and create the conditions for successful transit and community integration. Read more in the NRU article or read the full Transit Design Guide here.
