Access Planning is proud to provide its first scholarship at the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Access Planning founders and SCARP alumni, Karen Peachey and Tamim Raad, saw their alma mater as a natural first partner for giving back.
Every day Access Planning embraces creative ideas that address inequity in our cities and communities. Our team is committed to building great cities that are sustainable – environmentally, socially, and economically for today and for future generations. We also strive to give back and contribute to the development of people and communities. Supporting planning students through scholarships meets both these goals and encourages the translation of academic knowledge into equitable city-building practice. With this scholarship, we hope to support students to explore, test and apply planning approaches that address inequity in all its forms and then to carry these planning approaches and principles on into their professional practice.
SCARP is committed to generating and transforming knowledge that improves quality of life, communities, and the built and natural environment - a vision that aligns with our own. The Access Planning Scholarship in Community and Regional Planning is open to final-year students in the Master of Community and Regional Planning program whose final thesis, capstone project, or internship builds more equitable, just, and people-focused cities and communities. We are excited to see what ideas students bring forward – whether advancing meaningful First Nations reconciliation and leadership in planning or prioritizing city-building principles in the face of rapid technological change.
