Post-Pandemic City

Recently, Access Principal Tamim Raad participated in an online “City Conversations” hosted by SFU Public Square. The session focused on the post-pandemic city and the associated opportunities for people, streets, food and cars.

It was a great session with many ideas contributed by both panelists and participants about the opportunity facing Vancouver to increase liveability, mobility, and accessibility in the city.

You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.

As Tamim’s opening comments made clear, “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” His quick presentation walked us through hopeful evidence of our urban resilience and the opportunities to further invest in these, but also pointed to some of the serious cracks that have been made ever more apparent with the onset of the pandemic.

He urged us to be truly bold in our actions, and to act - boldly, cheaply, quickly, and everywhere. A rallying call for urbanists to build cities better, for all, and forever (not simply for Covid-times). You can watch Tamim’s presentation and the full recorded session here.
