Shaping the future of parking in the City of Toronto

Toronto has been through an extraordinary amount of change in a short period of time. Population growth, new policy initiatives, and the COVID-19 pandemic are examples of recent events that have resulted in a collective rethinking of how public spaces should serve the needs of residents. There is a growing recognition that spaces such as the curb should be managed in a way that contributes to livability, protect local businesses, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

To respond to these changes, the City initiated the development of a City-Wide Parking Strategy. Access was retained as the lead consultant for the development of the strategy, organizing and managing a team of technical experts. Access is managing the project across ten phases of work. The scope covers a broad array of technical analyses, including parking inventory, right-of-way mobility and demand modelling, as well as extensive public and stakeholder engagement.

The Strategy development is still in its early stages and is set to be completed in Q2 of 2024. The final strategy will include a set of actions that the City should consider to achieve its parking goals and objectives.
