Delivering customer experience benefits with Seattle’s Light Rail Extensions

The West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions (WSBLE) represent a combined 14-mile, 13-station planned expansion of the Seattle Link Light Rail network. The preferred alternative station designs were developed prior to the adoption and issuing of the Station Experience Design Guidelines (SEDM) in June 2022. The Sound Transit Board will confirm the station designs in 2023 and a decision on a final design and scope is anticipated in 2024.

Access worked with collaborators to provide expert advisory and technical services to support the project team in ensuring that station designs in current and subsequent project phases are consistent with the agency’s ambitious passenger experience goals and design guidance for stations. Access's role was as an integrator of structure and consistency through targeted engagement and dialogue across all concurrent station planning and design efforts – helping to (1) identify station-specific passenger experience expectations, (2) develop recommendations and tools to support greater consistency, and (3) inform making the right context-driven station specific choices.
