Establishing the strategic foundations for a future-ready mobility system at YVR

As one of British Columbia’s most important economic engineers and the province’s primary global gateway, YVR depends on a mobility system that can keep pace with rising demand and adjust for shifting travel patterns. Access Planning partnered with YVR’s leadership team to establish the case for change, articulate the goals and principles for the Integrated Mobility Strategy, and define the priority actions that will guide how people and goods move through the airports in the years ahead.

We brought our strategic, comparative, and evidence-based analysis and decision making to YVR’s mobility challenges and opportunities. Our situational analysis identified the system pressures shaping the airport’s future, from curbside congestion and regional transit gaps to on-island circulation and emerging mobility technologies. We paired this with global case studies to illuminate how leading airports evolve into multimodal hubs and reposition mobility as a driver of competitiveness and user experience.

The result is a clear, leadership-aligned mobility framework that sets direction without prescribing solutions: one that prioritizes regional connectivity, reimagines the curb as a front-door experience, strengthens active transportation, improves on-airport movement, and prepares the airport for future modes such as eVTOL and high-speed rail.

This foundational work elevated integrated mobility as a Board-endorsed priority and is now part in YVR’s 2025–27 Strategic Plan.
