Creating a major Regional Transit Centre at Pearson Airport

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) operates Toronto Pearson Airport, Canada’s busiest and fast-growing airport, located in the country’s second largest employment zone at the intersection of three of the nation’s busiest highways. The GTAA has embarked on the creation of a major Regional Transit Centre (RTC) at Pearson, and a strategy to connect multiple rail, LRT, and buses into the airport.

Access was engaged in 2018 as the GTAA’s owner's representative supporting a suite of initiatives focused on heavy rail, LRT, bus expansion, parking management, area planning, development assessments, program management, and senior leadership engagement. We provided the GTAA Board of Directors and executive team with a complete set of advice, tools, and support to enable an informed decision on the planning and development of a future RTC. The Access team also implemented a governance structure for collaboration between Metrolinx (the regional transit authority) and the GTAA.

By engaging in early transit planning supported by Access, the GTAA has been instrumental in shaping the program to enhance benefits and meet its objectives.

Access continues to support the GTAA on a range of strategic transit and groundside initiatives as the Airport plans its growth and development path in the COVID-19 recovery period and beyond.
